Equality at Holy Family
We are committed to equality, inclusion, and promoting and celebrating diversity in all aspects of our work. Catholic social teaching is at the heart of our commitment to equality. We believe in the dignity of the individual and will work to enhance that principle.
“None of us is an island, autonomous and independent from others. We can only build the future by standing together, including everyone.”
Pope Francis
We believe this policy should be a working document that is fit for purpose, represents the school ethos, enables consistency and quality across the school and is related to the following legislation:
· Human Rights Act 1998
· The Education (School Performance Information) (England) Regulations 2001
· Gender Recognition Act 2004
· Equality Act 2010
We understand that the Equality Act 2010 combines and builds upon the existing legislation covering discrimination and promotion of equality of opportunity. We recognise that this Act brings together into one Act those areas now known as ‘protected characteristics’ that qualify for protection from discrimination. We believe that everyone has the right to be treated with dignity and respect. We are opposed to any direct or indirect discrimination against individuals or groups whatever their Age, Gender, Race, Disability, Religion or belief, Sexual orientation, Gender reassignment, Marriage or civil partnerships, Pregnancy and maternity.
We believe that the Equality Act provides us with a framework to support our commitment to valuing diversity, tackling discrimination, promoting equality and fostering good relationships between people.
Anti Racism at Holy Family
At Holy Family, our goal is to empower children, staff and parents to be advocates for equality, fostering a community that celebrates differences and works together to dismantle racism.
We are currently working on five Race equality objectives:
1. Promoting Inclusive Curriculum:
Objective: Ensure that the curriculum reflects diversity and promotes inclusivity by incorporating materials and resources
that represent the cultures, backgrounds, and experiences of children of Black and Black dual heritage.
2. Addressing Attainment Gaps:
Objective: Implement targeted interventions to reduce and eliminate any identified attainment gaps for all Black and
Black dual heritage pupils, ensuring that all students have equal opportunities to excel academically.
3. Staff Development and Training:
Objective: Provide ongoing training and professional development for school staff on racial literacy to effectively identify
and tackle disproportionality within the school and create a truly anti-racist learning environment.
4. Developing Policies
Objective: Implement and regularly review policies and procedures to ensure a school culture where discrimination, and
prejudice are not tolerated, and where all students feel safe and respected.
5. Empowering Parents
Objective: Build and sustain a parent forum for parents with children of Black/Black dual heritage to empower them to
play an active role in their child/ren’s education
