The Upper KS2 Book Club have the wonderful opportunity to read a wide range of genres of books and then meet regularly to have thought-provoking discussions, sharing their opinions, questioning aspects of the plot and sharing ideas for future reads.
They also recently took part in the Junior Books Awards, where they read a shortlist of six books, voted on their winner and attended the Award ceremony alongside a number of other schools top see who the winner was. At the ceremony, they were lucky enough to meet Onjali Q. Rauf, the author of 'The Boy in the Back of the Class' and 'The Star Outside my Window'.
Reading Buddies
Members of the Book Club are also Reading buddies to some of our younger children in Year 1. As confident and Prolific readers, they listen to the children read and also read to them with the aim of raising enjoyment and confidence in reading.
"On Wednesdays and Thursdays I go to school early to read with the Year 1 children. As I am in Book Club, the members and I have the chance to help the Year 1s develop their reading. I think it is wonderful to see how they progress and get more confident in their reading. It is also nice to see younger ones taking pride in what they are saying."
