Curriculum

Our Creative Curriculum

At Holy Family we strive to ensure that every child receives a rich, broad and balanced curriculum underpinned by our Mission Statement ‘to inspire our children to achieve personal excellence for themselves and for the glory of God’. We want our children to achieve the highest possible standards in reading, writing and maths, but believe it is equally important that our Curriculum nurtures engagement, curiosity and innovation, bringing learning to life in meaningful ways.

Our Creative Curriculum is delivered through ‘Cornerstones’ and adapted to suit the needs of our school. It is a creative and thematic approach to learning that is mapped to the National Curriculum skills and expectations to ensure comprehensive coverage of national expectations. Learning is delivered through Imaginative Learning Projects (ILPs) which provide a rich menu of exciting and motivating learning activities that make creative links between many aspects of our children’s learning.

We believe children learn better when they are encouraged to use their imagination and apply their learning to engaging contexts. Key concepts are learnt and built upon across year groups, ensuring subject depth, coherence and progression. The Curriculum is ambitious for all learners and children are given ample opportunities to embed knowledge and master new skills in a range of contexts.

The Four Cornerstones of Learning provides the structure for every ILP. These are:

Engage – hook children in with a memorable experience.

Develop – allow children time to gather the skills and knowledge they need to develop a deep understanding.

Innovate – offer creative experiences that allow children to apply their skills, knowledge and understanding.

Express – provide the space and time for reflecting, evaluating and celebrating learning.

Throughout these four Cornerstones there are numerous opportunities for learning in and outside of the classroom, from trips, workshops to forest school lessons.  To enhance these opportunities, we are fortunate to have specialist teachers for Music, Spanish, Coding and PE and specialist providers for Art and Forest School.
