Monday 20th April

Hello parents, guardians and children!

I hope you are all keeping well during this time. I have decided to start writing a blog post to keep the children up to date with how I am keeping myself busy and keeping myself both physically and mentally fit while in lock-down. This first blog is simply going to show what a usual day looks like for me. Future posts will look a little more at individual things each time... So, let’s begin!

My mornings usually begin with some early morning stretching, I've been following a gymnast on YouTube called Tom Merrick (whose page is: The Body Weight Warrior) who has some great follow along videos for strength and flexibility. After stretching, I always have a big bowl of porridge with blueberries, a tbsp peanut butter and a tsp honey.

After this, is my study time. I’ve been working on an online diploma on ‘Mindfulness for Children’ from the Centre of Excellence. I have always been interested in mindfulness and see it as being more important than ever for all of us at the moment. After this is my second favourite time of the day (with the first being breakfast), which is lunch. Following lunch, I have some free time which I might spend either colouring in my giant 3D dinosaur, playing the Play Station, listening to an audiobook or painting some of my Warhammer models – I will include some pictures of all of the above in future posts.

Next is workout time! My partner and I have just begun to follow a 30-day exercise thing and it normally takes about 40mins… which has been hard for us after not doing too much fitness for three weeks!

Our workout looked like this:

  • 12 squats
  • 12 push-ups
  • 10 tricep dips
  • 20 step-ups
  • 12 backward lunges
  • 10 weighted tricep extension
  • Do this 3 times!

After the workout, is another short bit of free time, followed by dinner (third favourite time of the day). We made stir-fry miso noodles and vegetables. After (and sometimes during) dinner, we tend to watch a movie together or play with cards or a board game. The dishes get done, we take turns, doing them every other day. And finally, reading our books for a bit and then bed!

My lunch today: 4 Ryvita breads, 1 tangerine, 1 apple, smoked salmon, 1 avocado, vegan cheese, lettuce and 1 homemade cauliflower rosti.

My current project: A 1m tall 3D dinosaur that will soon be coloured.

Kind regards, Mr. Bascombe
