Maths Week

Holy Family Maths Week 19th-23rd November

During Maths Week, the children were treated to lots of different fun and engaging activities, workshops and competitions, all planned in order to develop their love of maths.

On Monday and Tuesday this week, the children had the very exciting opportunity of taking part in a range of problem solving activities, led by a visitor from ‘The Problem Solving Company’. The workshops not only developed the children’s mathematical thinking, but the children learned about the importance of working together cooperatively and as part of a team.
Children have also been developing these skills back in class, taking part in more problem based activities, working together in pairs and smaller groups. It was great to see children communicating clearly with one another and understanding that it’s ok to make mistakes.

Monday and Tuesday

A visitor from ‘The Problem Solving Company’ came in to lead some very exciting workshops for pupils in classes from Reception – Year 6. The children  enjoyed a session of hands on problem solving activities, working as a team to solve the tasks. The children  used large floor equipment to allow for full participation in the maths workshops. All children were immersed in the activities and had the opportunity to reason with each other enabling them to achieve the next step in the activity.

Wednesday, Thursday & Friday

Children had the opportunity to visit different teachers in their classes to take part in more hands on, problem solving carousel activities planned and led by the teachers.

My Maths

Teachers have been busy setting tasks and looking to see which children have been logging in and completing their online homework.

Creative Curriculum Maths

As part of the children’s homework, they were asked by their class teachers to create a maths activity with a times table focus, linked with their Cornerstones Creative Curriculum Topic. We have seen some of the most wonderful and creative pieces being shared in class. Well done children!
