Welcome to our Governors’ section.
Please find below details of how our Governing body is structured, including the names, categories, responsibilities and terms of appointment for each Governor.
Mr Mike Lyons: Chair and Foundation Governor
My name is Michael Lyons and I am the Chair of the Governors. I am married to Catherine, also a teacher, and have two children; Sarah and Andrew. As a family we have been involved in Catholic education as pupils and professionals. My daughter Sarah is a qualified Speech and Language Therapist. My son Andrew has Down’s syndrome and has shown us the importance inclusion plays in our school system. I was a Head Teacher in two Catholic primary schools over a 22 Year period; I retired from Headship on 2011.
I have been actively involved in my parish’s affairs through various committees and supportive bodies over the years and I am currently the Chair of the Finance Committee. I am also a Link Tutor for St. Mary’s University. This has kept me up to date with current educational practice at the classroom level and the innumerable changes to education that have been enacted over the past few years.
Being a Foundation Governor is a wonderful privilege, particularly in this growing school. I believe that a school should strive to develop young people who are confident, flexible and adaptable in outlook and skills to face the modern world and all its complexities. With these attributes and, with a sound understanding of the Gospel Values will enable the children in the future to contribute to the work of the Church and society and also furnish them with academic and spiritual essentials for a productive and happy life as an adult.
Mrs Sharon Carroll: Foundation Governor
My name is Sharon Carroll and I am currently a Foundation Governor at Holy Family. My youngest son Paddy attends the school and is in Year 4. I currently work in a Primary school in Westminster in a Nursery class, which I have been doing for 23 years. I feel very privileged to be a Governor at Holy Family and have seen it grown from small beginnings to an outstanding primary school.
Mrs Mary Copelin: Foundation Governor
I have been a Foundation Governor at Holy Family school since 2015.
I have a daughter and twin sons attending the school. My daughter has been at the school since the first year. It was an honour to be part of a new school from its beginnings.
I was an accountant before having children and decided to take a career break.
Mr Gerard O'Brien: Foundation Governor
I am an experienced Foundation Governor, having served for four years in another school and have previously been a catechist. I live in the local area with my wife and four children and have been a Holy Family parishioner for the last 30 years. I bring to the school practical industry experience in science, engineering and business; and an interest in history and art.
Mrs Yvonne Rutherford: Staff Governor
I have been Teacher Governor at Holy Family since I joined the school in September 2015. I look forward to working with the governors to enable Holy Family to continue to grow as an outstanding school where every child can achieve personal excellence in everything that they do.
Mr Thomas Doherty: Head Teacher Governor
I have been Head Teacher Governor since my appointment in Holy Family in September 2016. This is my second Headship and the sixth school I have worked in since I started teaching in 2001.
I am fortunate to have been in Catholic education my entire life and it is a privilege to lead this Catholic school. I look forward to working with the Governing Body so that we are able to serve the families of Holy Family to the best of our ability.
Mr Steve Donnelly: LA Governor
I have lived in Acton for over 25 years. I have spent a total of 12 years as a school governor at two local schools including Holy Family. I am a Trade Union Officer. I play tennis in my spare time.
Mrs Fiona Beazer: Parent Governor
I was elected as Parent Governor in July 2015. I am married to Hugh and have two sons at the school, my eldest is in Year 2 and the other is in the Reception.
My background is in education and after graduating I completed my PGCE and taught in a large secondary school in Feltham for 13 years, where I was Head of Sixth Form for a significant number of those years. I am currently on a career break but still have a keen interest in, and knowledge of, new initiatives and educational policies.
It is a privilege to work as a Governor in an outstanding school, and I am very excited by the opportunities it presents.
Mr Edwin Moore: Parent Governor
Along with my fellow Governors I very much want Holy Family to continue to thrive and succeed. My background is in business consulting and organisational improvement. I consider myself to be a positive, fun, team player with a healthy ability to get things done. I grew up in Ealing - going to Catholic primary and secondary schools. I am very familiar with our local area and the wonderful diversity of people that make it special. I have a daughter and son at Holy Family and am motivated to see the wide potential in all the children being realised. Another keen interest I have is in increasing the involvement of male carers in the life of the school.
